Goodbye Summer!

The unofficial end to summer is here … goodbye to the hot and steamy August days and hello to cooler temps, falling leaves and shorter days. One thing I love about September is that New England Grown Produce is abundant – zucchini, squash, apples, pears and more. The hours of sunlight are slowly diminishing, which means more time at home … and more time to try new recipes in the kitchen. I encourage you to pick up our Wellbeing newsletter each month in our stores – you’ll find great recipes using seasonal produce. This past weekend, I attended a family party and was asked to bring a healthy dish. Of course, I brought a side dish that I wanted to try out for our October newsletter- Squash Saute. I was missing one ingredient – fresh basil. So, I substituted frozen basil – and it tasted just as good. It was a hit if I do say so myself! Even my dad had the saute … and that’s saying a lot, since he rarely will eat things I cook. Want to try it out for yourself? Look for the recipe next month in the October issue.  My advice this fall season: try out great seasonal recipes making use of the wonderful fall produce we have in New England!
